Anointed To Love
THE STORY BEHIND THE ART
Anointed to Love was created during the Easter season of 2025. This mixed-media painting depicts Mary anointing the feet of Jesus—an intimate act of love, devotion, and surrender.
Mary bends low before Christ, pouring out the precious perfume from her vessel. Light seems to rise from what she pours, transforming an act of breaking and emptying into something beautiful. Her posture is vulnerable and humble, yet there is strength in her complete surrender.
Layers of vintage textbook pages are worked into the painting, including an architectural plan of a church taken from an old art-history text. These fragments of history become part of the surface and story of the work, connecting this deeply personal moment of worship with generations of faith.
At its heart, Anointed to Love speaks of the beauty of brokenness—of what can happen when we allow ourselves to be poured out before God. What appears broken or emptied can become an offering of extraordinary beauty, love, and grace.
