Keeping Balance
THE STORY BEHIND THE ART
Balanced Rock is one of those places that seems almost impossible—this enormous stone resting on such a small foundation, standing against the Colorado sky year after year. The original was painted on site in watercolor at Garden of the Gods.
In this painting, I wanted to capture more than the landmark itself. The road curves toward the rock and then disappears from sight, reminding me that so much of life is like that. We can see the road we are on, but we cannot always see where it leads.
For me, Balanced Rock is a picture of faith—moving forward even when we cannot see what is waiting around the bend, trusting that the journey continues beyond what we can see.
